"What Happens To A Dream Deferred?" Necklace

  • $ 1,200.00

Enamel, copper, sterling silver. This is a one of a kind piece inspired by the poem "Harlem", by Langston Hughes. The enameled images on the front are abstract representations of the verses of the poem, and on the back are riveted plates etched with the corresponding verse. This is a heavy piece, due to the weight of the enamel and the gauge of the copper, but it is wearable.

Harlem

By Langston Hughes

What happens to a dream deferred?
      Does it dry up
like a raisin in the sun?
      Or fester like a sore—
      And then run?
Does it stink like rotten meat?
      Or crust and sugar over—
      like a syrupy sweet?
      Maybe it just sags
      like a heavy load.
      Or does it explode?
